If you burn on the hot coals, you're a witch

It doesn't get any less outrageous with the passage of time, the Pentagon tactic of saying that any complaint by Guantanamo Bay detainees that actually goes public is itself evidence of their terrorist activities -- Tuesday's Washington Post has the latest example:

"This technique, hunger striking, is consistent with the al Qaeda training, and reflects the detainees' attempts to elicit media attention and bring pressure on the United States government," Martin [Gitmo spokesman] said.

We speculated at the start of the year that the Pentagon was covering up hunger strikes, so they've clearly now moved to phase 2, which is to acknowledge their existence but couple it with the prisoner self-indictment. And as for explaining why there were hunger strikes before al Qaeda came along, well, that's just evidence of links between other terrorist groups and al Qaeda!
