One weak spot
Reuters/Dylan Martinez; caption
Gordon Brown has gotten a lot right in the last few months but the obsession with Alan Greenspan is very strange. Greenspan is well on the way to being a discredited figure in the US -- far too tolerant of George Bush's fiscal lunacy when it was obvious to others what was going on, and far too willing to err on the side of not raising interest rates even as Wall Street financing got ever more reckless. Greenspan is clever enough to know which way the wind is blowing, as his book's distancing from Bush reveals, but it's really not clear what cachet Gordon is seeking from him. Hopefully Mervyn King is not taking it personally.
